Malang Sarr reveals Chelsea target after Porto loan
Malang Sarr insists his immediate loan to Porto was planned and is aiming to win a place at Chelsea.
The 22-year-old centre-back was signed on a free transfer from Nice last summer.
Sarr briefly linked up with Chelsea’s development squad in training before he joined Porto on a season-long loan deal.
The French defender, who was highly rated during his time in Ligue 1, has played a bit-part role at Porto this season but was brought on in their thrilling Champions League clash against Juventus earlier this week.
And Sarr, who signed a five-year contract with Chelsea, has his eye on a first-team role under Thomas Tuchel.
‘I was training with Chelsea before I got loaned,’ Sarr told L’Equipe.
‘The loan was part of the plan. I had to be honest with myself, my season ended in March and I wasn’t going to be successful right away with Chelsea.
‘It was the perfect solution because I wanted to do a season at a top club like Porto, to be good and then later win a place at Chelsea.’
