Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and John Murtough agree to prioritise Erling Haaland transfer this summer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in agreement with the club’s new Football Director, John Murtough, that the Red Devils should prioritise the signing of Dortmund forward Erling Haaland this summer.
Murtough made history last week by becoming the club’s first ever Football Director, in a new role created to help United overcome their frailties in the transfer market.
United’s track record in the market has improved dramatically under Solskjaer, with the Norwegian moving away from a template set by Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.
Solskjaer gave Haaland his career debut as a 16-year-old at Molde but he failed to convince the 20-year-old to move to Old Trafford in January 2020, with the Norweigan opting for a £20m move to Dortmund instead.
Haaland has struck an incredible 47 goals in 48 games for the Bundesliga giants and he’s valued at around £120m by the German club, who are increasingly resigned to the fact that they’ll have to cash in on him at the end of the season.

United had planned on waiting until 2022 before making a move to sign Haaland, as there’s a release clause in his contract which would make him available for £62.5m.
However, United believe their chances of signing Haaland are better this summer and the Manchester Evening News claims Solskjaer has agreed with Murtough that the club must focus all their efforts on signing him at the end of the season.
United had expected to retain Edinson Cavani for a further season but the Uruguayan is unhappy in England and is already seeking a return to South America.
Solskjaer wants to sign a centre-back, a central midfielder and a right winger this summer on top of the club’s desire to sign a striker but he’ll need to raise significant funds through player sales in order to complete his business.
United have handed Solskjaer a modest budget of around £80m but he can top that up by around £60m if the club successfully sell Jesse Lingard, Diogo Dalot, Juan Mata and Phil Jones.
On top of that, Paul Pogba could be sold and he alone could raise as much as £50m on the open market, even if he’s entering the final year of his deal at Old Trafford.
