Second Winter Storm Will Bring Snow, Ice To Northern US As April Kicks Off

A second winter storm will blanket parts of the northern U.S. with snow and ice through the weekend from the northern Rockies to the Great Lakes and parts of northern New England as a reminder that April can still deliver wintry weather for some.

The Weather Channel

Fortunately, neither of these back-to-back winter storms will come anywhere close to the ferocity oflast month's record-setting blizzard. But each will still have impacts on travel into the Easter holiday weekend.

The storms have been named Winter Storm Joseline and Winter Storm Kadence by The Weather Channel.

Happening Now

The map below shows where areas of snow, sleet and freezing rain are occurring right now.

Most of Joseline's snow and ice has pushed into eastern Canada, but some wintry precipitation is lingering in parts of northern Minnesota and northern New England.

Joseline blanketed parts of the Dakotas and northern Minnesota with up to 8 inches of snow. It also left one-quarter one half-inch of accumulated ice in parts of northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan, which, combined with strong winds, knocked out power to over 50,000 customers.

The second winter storm, Kadence, is spreading its snow and some ice out of the northern Rockies into the Northern Plains.

Winter Alerts

Winter storm warnings, and even an ice storm warning, have been issued for parts of the upper Midwest just hammered by last month's blizzard, including parts of Minnesota into northern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Conditions in these areas will make it dangerous to travel.

Forecast Timeline

Friday, the first winter storm will have spread most of its snowy, icy mess into eastern Canada. However, some snow, sleet or freezing rain is expected in parts of northern New England early, before precipitation changes to rain.

Meanwhile, the second winter storm — Kadence — will take shape over the Northern Plains with more snow and ice. Friday night, that wintry mess will once again spread into the northern Great Lakes.

Winter Storm Kadence will persist in the northern Great Lakes with snow and some areas of ice, though some warmer air could change some areas of freezing rain to rain by midday.

Some freezing rain could once again also spread into parts of far northern New England late Saturday night, but it may change to rain by Easter Sunday.

How Much More Snow, Ice?

As we alluded to earlier, despite being two storms back-to-back, neither storm will produce anywhere near the totals of the blizzard in mid-March.

However, we do expect a swath of 6-inch-plus additional snowfall across parts of the Dakotas into northern Minnesota and perhaps extreme northwest Wisconsin. Extreme northern Maine could see snowfall approach 6 inches, as well.

This could make travel difficult on stretches of Interstates 94, 29, 35 and 90. Leave yourself extra time and be prepared in case any stretches of roads close for a period of time. The combination of wet snow and winds may also lead to some power outages and tree damage in some areas.

The map below shows areas that may see enough ice accumulation to make most roads slippery, for a time, particularly bridges and overpasses.

The combination of accumulating ice and winds may also lead to some tree damage and power outages in these areas, especially areas that see freezing rain from both storms.

What complicates this forecast, however, is that precipitation in the areas below may eventually change to rain, and ground temperatures are warmer due to the recent bout of spring warmth.

For now, the highest concern for accumulating ice in the Great Lakes is early Saturday.

In far northern New England, that icing concern is early Friday, then possibly again early Sunday.

April Snow

You might be wondering how weird snow as late as April is.

The short answer is, "it's typical."

As you can see in the map below, the season's last snow typically happens in April across most of the northern tier, from northern New England to the Northern Plains.

In parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and the Rockies, snow usually still falls in May.

It was "whoa" at first sight forConnor Tomlinson and Georgie Harris.

The couple quickly hit it off after meeting on season 3 ofNetflix'sLove on the Spectrum. On their first date, they bonded over their shared role as the oldest siblings in their respective families and their love ofThe Dragon Prince.

Yet the season ended just three dates into their relationship, leaving fans to wonder how things were progressing. Georgie gave fans an update onInstagramin April 2025, writing, "I am happy to finally be able to say that Connor and I are still together and having a great time. I can't wait to see him again soon."

However, season 4 opened with the couple navigating some issues, including Connor feeling distant from her. Ultimately, after a trip to London, they broke up off-camera.

So where areLove on the Spectrum's Connor and Georgie now? Here's everything to know about their lives after their split.

Connor and Georgie are two Georgia-based romantic hopefuls who saw sparks fly on season 3 ofLove on the Spectrum.

Connor showed symptoms of neurodivergence as early as 2 years old, though he wasn't officially diagnosed with level 1 autism until the age of 5, as his mother Lise Smith told theNew England Center for Children(NECC).

Though Connor has said he initially thought he was "sick," he came to realize that "having level 1 autism grants certain gifts," he explained on a November 2025 episode of theKeep It Alohapodcast. "I'm able to remember things better. I feel like my thinking power is doubled, so I'm able to problem solve."

Before becoming a reality star, he worked at Kroger, bagging groceries, sweeping and retrieving carts. Since appearing on season 2 of the show, Connor was the grand marshal for the State of Georgia's Special Olympics event in May 2024 and a keynote speaker at the upcoming Best Buddies national gala, per the NECC.

Georgie, who is also on the spectrum, has been open about her struggle with self-expression. In April 2025, she wrote onInstagram, "People with autism may have trouble expressing or understanding their feelings which can end up with them shutting down. When we shut down we end up not hearing what people have to say and it takes a while for our brain to recalibrate to function what people are saying."

When did Connor and Georgie first meet?

Connor and Georgie first met on a blind date duringLove on the Spectrumseason 3. Connor was immediately smitten by his new love interest, whom he came to refer to as his "demi-goddess."

"Whoa. Who is that?" he said after meeting her for the first time.

At one point during their second outing, he was captured by cameras talking about his date on the way to the bathroom. "She is something else," he whispered, adding, "Where have you been all my life?"

Ultimately, Connor and Georgie dated for a year. They even spent their first Valentine's Day with each other, where they went to Medieval Times, he told PEOPLE in April 2025. Connor upgraded Georgie to the "queen's package," which allowed them to get front row seats to the joust.

However, season 4 saw the couple navigating a series of emotional issues, with Connor expressing difficulty gauging Georgie's interest in the first few episodes. "It almost feels like I'm being rejected," he said on the show.

Though Georgie confirmed that she views Connor romantically, she admitted that she pulls away when he tries to get physically close to her. "I don't mean to make you feel that way," she said. "I think, maybe, 'cause I've never kissed, like, a boy ... I'm still trying to learn that it's okay to kiss you 'cause you are my boyfriend."

The couple ultimately traveled to London together, where Georgie met Connor's grandfather and visited his late grandmother's grave. However, the trip wasn't easy at times.

"When Georgie and I were in Hyde Park, I was trying to be romantic, but it seemed like she was more transfixed by the honeybees and the ladybugs than she was with me," he told his mom in a conversation recapping the vacation.

When Smith asked him how that made him feel, he replied, "Like I was invisible."

Connor later told PEOPLE in April 2026 that during the trip, he "noticed Georgie didn't seem as hyped by this as I was."

"That made me concerned," he said. "Anyone else would've thought themselves blessed to be here."

The couple ultimately split off-camera, with Connor announcing the news at costarsMadison Marilla and Tyler White's engagement party.

"Georgie and I are no longer together," he told theLove on the Spectrumgroup, though he confirmed that they will remain friends. "We reached an understanding. We're two wonderful people, but two very different people."

He later confessed to Dani Bowman that while he was going through "heartache," he and Georgie weren't "cut out for each other."

Despite their breakup, Connor told PEOPLE that the relationship and his experience onLove on the Spectrumhas changed him profoundly.

"I feel like I've grown greatly as both a TV star and as a man," he said. "I never even dated before going on that show. I was always too afraid, too nervous that I'd say the wrong thing and it would derail the whole thing. Now I feel my confidence is soaring."

He continued, "I feel like I can do anything. Now that everyone knows me, I feel like I could make something of myself."

Connor left his job at Kroger in November 2025, marking what he called "the end of a seven-year era."

Since then, he has worked with the Georgia General Assembly to help pass Georgia's Rio's Law, designed to help law enforcement officers identity people with autism or developmental disabilities through a specialty license plate before approaching their vehicles.

The bill was unanimously passed into office on March 25, 2026. "Getting to testify for this bill was one of the greatest honors of my life," Connor wrote onInstagram. "I am so proud to be a voice for my community. The autism and neurodivergent community deserves safety, dignity, and understanding, and today, the state of Georgia agreed. Unanimously."

Meanwhile, Georgie has also continued community outreach, posting about her work with philanthropies likeFoster LoveandTwo Sparrows Villageon Instagram.

In March 2026, Georgie announced the death of her beloved dog, Duke. "We were lucky to have an extra 6 months with Duke," shewrote. "On February 15th, 2026 at 3pm it was time for us to lay Duke to rest and for him to join our Lord in heaven. Below is a video of some of my favorite photos. I hope you enjoy it. If you listen carefully you might hear Duke's howl."

Connor showed his support for his ex-girlfriend, commenting, "So sorry, Georgie I know how much you loved Duke."

Brian Cox tears into Edward Norton, Margot Robbie, and more stars in scathing interview: 'I'm gonna say what I want to say'

As he's made apparent many times before,Brian Coxisn't afraid to share his opinion on the work of his fellow thespians.

In a scathing new interview withThe Times, published on Friday, Cox tears into former costars and Oscar nominees alike, includingEdward Norton,Margot Robbie, andJohnny Depp.

Cox said he turned down the role of the governor in thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise because he did not want to work alongside Depp, who he thinks is "so overblown, so overrated." (The part eventually went to Jonathan Pryce.)

As for his25th Hourco-star Norton, Cox said he's "a pain in the arse" while also calling outIan McKellen's acting as "not to my taste."

He even went so far as to bash a film he's not yet seen due to the casting:Emerald Fennell'sWuthering Heights. "'Keith Cliff! It's me, Cathy!'" Cox reportedly declaimed "in a cod Australian accent" to represent Robbie, according toThe Times. "'How ya doing, Keith? Awright?' 'Yeah, I'm awright!'"

The outlet said Cox laughed before adding, "Margot Robbie is far too beautiful for that role. I mean, I think there should be something more of the Gypsy about her but it's wrong of me to judge. It may be a brilliant film."

On his no-holds-barred approach to discussing his craft — and others in the industry — Cox admitted he's too old to care about what people think of him.

"Well, I don't know yet if it's caused me problems," he said. "I mean, my wife [Nicole Ansari-Cox] keeps saying, 'Brian, be careful. Brian, be careful.' I think, 'F--- it, I don't want to be careful any more! I'll be 80 this year. F--- it! I'm gonna say what I want to say.'"

The Emmy winner also explained that, even thoughDaniel Day-Lewis asked him to callto discuss his thoughts on method acting (in light of Cox's 2023 commentsabout hisSuccessionco-star Jeremy Strong's "f---ing annoying" approach), he declined to make contact.

"No, I haven't reached out because it's got nothing to do with Dan Day-Lewis," he said. "Dan Day-Lewis, he's discreet. He never upsets it [the filming process]. He's never, sort of… I don't want to go on about Jeremy, because I've got into a lot of problems and he's begged me to stop talking about him. He's a good actor, Jeremy. He's a wonderful actor. It's just all the bollocks that goes with it. You watch children — they don't say, 'What's my motivation?' They just do it!"

Cox aimed his criticisms at those behind the camera as well. He said Michael Caton-Jones is "a complete arsehole," David Hare is a "see you next Tuesday" andQuentin Tarantinois "meretricious."

When discussing his feature directorial debut,Glenrothan, Cox said he's "more egalitarian than a lot of directors, the kind who call themselves visionaries."

He added, "I like to honor the actor's performance. With a Quentin Tarantino film, what you see is all Quentin Tarantino. That's not me. I don't want to do that."

Glenrothan, which stars Cox and fellow ScotAlan Cummingas two brothers who bear the scars of their overbearing father while battling over the family whisky business, is out in the U.K. on April 17.
