Messi scores, but Inter Miami only gets 2-2 tie with Austin FC in opener of new stadium

MLS Austin Inter Miami Soccer

It was good enough to salvage a point for Inter Miami.

Messi scored on a headerin the 10th minute, Suarez hammered home a volley in the 82nd minute and Inter Miami escaped with a 2-2 tie against Austin FC in the defending MLS champions' first match at their still-under-construction stadium near Miami International Airport on Saturday night.

Inter Miami (3-1-2) is now unbeaten in its last five MLS matches, and Austin (1-2-3) is now winless in its last four contests.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber was at the match, lauding the work that David Beckham — who picked Miami 13 years ago — did to get to this day. Inter Miami is in its seventh MLS season, its third with Messi, but has played home matches in Fort Lauderdale until now.

Garber touted the stadium opening as the latest sign of growth for MLS.

"I think our best days are still ahead," Garber said. "David shined a light on our league, and Leo's taking that torch, and he's showing it around. And we're getting calls from players around the world."

The Herons never led; Austin took a 1-0 lead on Guilherme Biro's goal — the first ever at Nu Stadium — in the sixth minute, and the visitors went up 2-1 when speedy reserve Jayden Nelson scored in the 53rd minute.

Messi and Suarez both got tying goals, and Inter Miami missed some chances for a potential winner in the final minutes. Maybe the best of the lot: Mateo Silvetti's chance in the 87th minute, when he accepted a cross from the right wing and tried to one-time the ball but sent it sailing high.

"We already know what Leo is capable of and the trouble he causes for the opposition, and even without the ball as well," Inter Miami defender Maxi Falcon told Apple TV after the match. "And Luis, too — whenever he's inside the box, he's lethal, and he proved that once again."

Suarez thought he scored in the 90th minute after a free kick from Messi, but the play was called offside. And Messi had a chance about three minutes later from inside the box, but Brad Stuver got low for a save diving to his left to keep the game knotted at 2-2.

Stuver said it was a great result, especially given the circumstances — against the MLS champs, who were opening their new stadium.

"We got to be the villains," Stuver said.

Austin led much of the second half, after Nelson came on at intermission and gave his club a spark.

Nelson — who played for Vancouver against Inter Miami in last season's MLS Cup final — got behind the defense, avoided going offside and took a pass from Myrto Uzuni in the middle of the field about 30 yards from the goal.

He sent a low shot that got past charging Inter Miami goalie Dayne St. Clair and kissed off the inside of the left goalpost before settling into the net.

Jonathan Majors falls through window while filming new action movie, leading to crew walking off set

Jonathan Majors and his co-star fell through a window while filming their new action movie — leading crew members to walk off set.

The actor and JC Kilcoyne were shooting a scene in which their characters had guns fired at them, according toDeadline.

However, the glass sheet shattered and the actors ended up falling backwards.

The crew quickly came over to check on Majors and Kilcoyne, who reportedly fell six feet to the ground.

According to sources, after the incident on the South Carolina set, Kilcoyne received stitches "all over his hands."

The actor's reps told Deadline that he is "doing well and was taken care of immediately by production."

They added that he "did not feel unsafe on set and continued to have a positive experience working on the project."

Kilcoyne has since wrapped filming the movie, which hails from Dallas Sonnier's production company, Bonfire Legend, and The Daily Wire.

Page Six reached out to reps for Jonathan Majors, The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend for comment.

However, the incident is just one of many that led the crew to walk out and strike, per Deadline.

Props fell on crew members, black mold infested one location and despite a contractor's warnings of asbestos, producers still chose to shoot in that location.

On March 26, following the window incident, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) called a strike against the production.

Dallas Sonnier (pictured here in 2017), a producer on the film, told Deadline: Filming will continue and production is working to replace the crew members that left. WireImage

Dallas Sonnier, a producer for Bonfire Legend, told Deadline in a statement on Friday: "The entire industry is in freefall due to strikes, and now that their members are out of work, they're trying to sabotage the few people who are still producing. We don't negotiate with communists."

According to Deadline, filming is continuing, with production working to replace the crew members that left.

Sonnier previously told Deadline when the story first broke that he and his fellow producers were "too busy being bad asses, blowing s–t up, flying helicopters, and killing movie terrorists to concern ourselves with four assh—s with signs on the sidewalk and their illegitimate 'strike.' "

He also toldPeopleon Friday, "The actors' fall was shorter than the failed movie careers of the now-union reps."

Meanwhile, producers have not denied any of the allegations.

The driver of the vehicle is in custody, and the preliminary investigation determined the incident "does not appear to be an intentional act," said Rebecca Melancon, the public information officer for the sheriff.

The driver, identified as a 57-year-old man from Jeanerette, showed signs of impairment, the state police said in astatement. The sheriff's department called the state police to assist in responding to the incident around 2:30 p.m., the statement said.

The driver was booked into the Iberia Parish jail for driving while impaired, first-degree negligent injuring, careless operation and open container, the state police said.

The Louisiana Lao New Year Festival said it is "profoundly saddened by the news of the incident near the festival grounds." The festival — which started Friday evening in Broussard and New Iberia, Louisiana — said it is still waiting for additional information from authorities.

"All security resources have been redirected to the scene, and we currently do not have security personnel available due to the circumstances," the statement said. Saturday evening's festival music programs have been canceled, but vendors will remain open until 9 p.m.

Depending on whether security resources are restored for Sunday, the festival will continue but only involve religious services and vendors, the statement said.

"We are praying for the victims and for their families during this difficult time," festival organizers said.

Eli Anderson, a festival attendee and witness to the incident, told CNN affiliate KATC he was a few feet away from getting hit by the vehicle. "In that moment, my brain just stopped. I just thought, 'Is this actually happening?'" said Anderson.

Anderson said he and other festival attendees were walking in the parade, listening to music and enjoying themselves when he noticed a man "get into his car, starts revving his engine, and inch closer to the parade.

"I just simply thought he was coming to join the parade because the car was kind of nice and it was loud. He inches closer and closer, revs his engine again and plows through everybody," he continues.

"There were people in the golf cart, the guy hit the golf cart and they flew off. Not sure exactly what happened to them, but I know they're in the hospital right now," he told KATC.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landrysaid on Xhe and his wife are "praying for all those affected, and are grateful for the first responders who have responded to the scene."

The state's Attorney General Liz Murrillalso released a statement, saying she is "praying for all those injured and impacted by this terrible tragedy and will be following up with responding law enforcement agencies to offer support."
