A gunman opened fire Friday in an Idaho sheriff's office and at two women outside, injuring three people before he was killed by law enforcement, the Shoshone County sheriff said.
The incident at the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office in Wallace happened around 2:30 p.m. and the suspect was pronounced deceased at 4:15 p.m., Shoshone County Sheriff William Eddy said.
The officer and two women suffered minor injuries in the incident, Eddy said. The information was still preliminary Friday evening, he said.
Eddy described one of the shots as "just nicking" the ear of the officer who was struck, and said he believed the two women were hit in the leg.
The lobby of the sheriff's office was open to the public at the time.
"The suspect entered the sheriff's office lobby and began firing," Eddy said at a news conference.
The suspect's name was not publicly released Friday evening.
The two women were sitting in a pickup parked outside the sheriff's office when the gunman fired at them through the windshield, striking each in the leg, Eddy said. One woman was in the front seat and the other was in the back seat, he said.
Police from other surrounding agencies, as well as the FBI, responded to the incident, Eddy said.
The shooting remained under investigation Friday, and Eddy said more information about a timeline of the events was not immediately clear.
Wallace is a small town of around 800 people in northern Idaho, around 80 miles east of Spokane, Washington.
