Kate Winsletwon't kiss and tell,but now, at 50, she's opening up.
The Oscar-winning actress shared the revelation for the first time on a Dec. 24 episode of the "Team Deakins" podcast. "I'll share something I've never shared before. Some of my first intimate experiences as a young teen were actually with girls," she told hosts Roger and James Deakins. "I'd kissed a few girls, and I'd kissed a few boys, but I wasn't particularly evolved in either direction."
The "Titanic" star said those experiences from her adolescence helped her find a "really intense connection" with her character in the 1994 thriller "Heavenly Creatures."
In the film, Winslet andMelanie Lynskeyplayed real teens Juliet Hulme and Pauline Parker, who had a dangerously obsessive friendship that led to the 1954 killing of Pauline's mother, Honorah Rieper.
While she "couldn't truly understand" the dark aspects of the story, Winslet said she resonated with the powerful connections people can form when they are young and "vulnerable."
"At that stage in my life, I certainly was curious, and I think there was something about the really intense connection that those two women had that I profoundly understood, " she added. "I was so immediately sucked into the vortex of that world they were in that obviously became horrendously damaging to both of them, and they had huge insecurities and vulnerabilities."

The "Mare of Easttown" star supports her children pursuing careers in Hollywood and rejects the criticisms of nepotism in the industry.
"Part of mothering is learning to let go," Winslet told USA TODAY earlier this month. "What I've only ever tried to do is to reinforce to my children how important it is to work for things, to strive for something, and not to listen to the f------ nepo baby thing, because it's not actually very nice or even kind."

She recently made her directorial debut with"Goodbye June," which was written by her 21-year-old son, actor Joe Anders. She also co-starred in a 2022 episode of the British anthology series "I Am …" alongside daughterMia Threapleton, 25, who starred in Wes Anderson's comedy"The Phoenician Scheme."
Winslet also has a 12-year-old son, Bear, with husband Edward Abel Smith.
"People have been going into family businesses for years and years," she added. "For example, I've never met Wes Anderson. Never in my life, not once. So it's really not cool to use that term in any context to do with Mia because she's done it all herself."
