Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel provides update on Thiago Silva, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz ahead of Newcastle clash

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Thiago Silva will miss Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Newcastle but Timo Werner should return and there’s a chance Kai Havertz could feature at Stamford Bridge.
All three players were absent at Barnsley last night as Tammy Abraham converted Chelsea’s only effort on target to set up an FA Cup quarter-final home tie with Sheffield United.
Andreas Christensen had to be replaced by Antonio Rudiger at the halfway stage at Oakwell as he was suffering with a headache and Tuchel did not state whether or not the defender would be considered ahead of Monday’s encounter.

Asked whether Christensen’s problem was concussion-related at his press conference on Friday morning, the German replied: ‘No, it was not concussion-related at all.
‘It was a headache so it was better that we took him off.’

Werner, who missed out versus Barnsley, looks to have recovered from his thigh injury and Tuchel refused to rule out the possibility of Havertz facing Newcastle following a knock.
The former Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder has missed Chelsea’s last three games in all competitions and will no doubt be desperate to return after an underwhelming start to his time in England.
Fellow summer arrival, Silva, will have to wait to play a part again due to a muscular issue, with Tuchel earmarking Chelsea’s trip to Southampton as a possible comeback date for the veteran Brazilian.
The Chelsea head coach added: ‘For the other guys, it’s Friday and we still have three training sessions, it should be absolutely okay for Timo Werner to come back.
‘It’s maybe too close for Kai still and for sure [that’s also the case] for Thiago.
‘For Thiago we are aiming for Southampton, we are trying hard. Let’s see if we make it, I cannot promise.
‘For Kai, let’s see if he’s out today, I’m not sure. It will be a very short time for Kai so maybe he will be missing this match as well.’
