Santi Cazorla give his verdict on Manchester United transfer target Pau Torres
Former Arsenal favourite Santi Cazorla has described reported Manchester United target Pau Torres as a ‘brutal’ defender – but believes he may be most suited to playing for Barcelona.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to bring in another centre-half this summer with Villarreal defender Torres said to be on a shortlist of targets that also includes Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and David Carmo of Braga.
The 24-year-old Torres has also been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this week, although reports suggest Los Blancos are wary of a €65m valuation.
Cazorla, who has linked up with Barcelona legend Xavi at Qatari side Al Saad, told RAC1: ‘I thin Pau Torres is a brutal player. Xavi asks me a lot about him. He is a young player, I think he is a brutal footballer.
‘He has a great personality. He has more Barcelona style, he gets the ball very well and he has a very good vision game.’
Xavi was strongly linked with a return to Barcelona before Ronald Koeman’s appointment at the Camp Nou last year, eventually turning down the role after deciding the time was not right.
Cazorla says, however, that the former Spain international still dreams of managing the club and will return soon.
‘There are a lot of rumours here with Xavi and the elections, but I see him very clam. It’s clear that his dream is to be Barca’s coach.’
He continued: ‘Xavi is ready to coach Barca. He knows the club perfectly, he knows how things are going. He is aware of how things can go for him and what he has to endure in a club like Barca.
‘In terms of technical capabilities, he is fully prepared.’
