Jurgen Klopp explains why Ben Davies is not in Liverpool squad for Leicester clash
Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has revealed January signing Ben Davies picked up a knock in training and therefore could play no part in the side’s Premier League clash with Leicester this weekend.
Fabinho was ruled out of Liverpool’s trip to the King Power Stadium due to a muscle injury and Ozan Kabak – who arrived on loan from Schalke this winter – makes his debut at the heart of the visitors’ defence alongside captain Jordan Henderson.
Injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip left the champions desperately short of defensive options at the midway stage of the campaign and Preston’s Davies put pen to paper on a long-term contract on Merseyside on deadline day.
But the 25-year-old, who can operate at both centre-back and left-back, will have to wait for his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt, with the club’s injury list continuing to grow.
‘It was a good training week, an important one,’ Klopp told BT Sport ahead of kick-off.
‘Ben Davies picked up a knock as well, it’s unbelievable but Ozan Kabak looked good. This is the proper test against [Jamie] Vardy and [Harvey] Barnes.
‘He is in a new team, but it is not about a step up from the Bundesliga as you face top, top strikers there.
‘Leicester are outstanding, Brendan is doing a brilliant job. They can change systems, they are really strong and are extremely good at the counter attack.’
