Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 first leg clash against RB Leipzig will be played in Budapest, Hungary due to coronavirus protocols preventing the Germans from hosting the fixture.

Germany have recently banned all arrivals from areas affected by new Covid-19 mutations and the United Kingdom heads the list, given the spread of the Kent and South African variants across the four nations.

Leipzig held talks with Spurs over hosting the first leg in London but they were unable to come to an agreement.

The Germans then looked at a neutral venue and the Puskas Arena in Budapest is listed as such by UEFA.

The February 16th date for the first leg remains unchanged and Liverpool’s squad will not have to quarantine on their return to Merseyside.
