Michael Vaughan says he ‘really hopes’ Jos Buttler stays in India after helping England win the first Test by 227 runs.

As part of the ECB’s rotation policy during a hectic year, Buttler is set to return home in the next few days ahead of the second Test in Chennai which starts on Saturday.

But former captain Vaughan told BBC Test Match Special: ‘I just wish England would change their mind and let Jos Buttler play the second Test. This is special.

‘I get the bubble and they need time back at home but when you’ve just gone 1-0 up and are playing at the same venue in a few days time, surely you want to go with the same team?

‘It’s almost impossible to win a Test series in India so surely Buttler would want to be a part of it and surely England want to keep this ground together?

‘Miss the ODIs and T20s, winning a Test series in India will mean so much more.’
