‘Ridiculous’ – Michael Vaughan slams India for not picking Kuldeep Yadav in first England Test
Michael Vaughan says it was ‘ridiculous’ that India did not pick Kuldeep Yadav in their team to face England in the opening Test in Chennai.
India opted to hand Shahbaz Nadeem only his second Test appearance rather than play fellow left-arm spinner Yadav.
Vaughan tweeted: ‘Ridiculous decision by India not to play Kuldeep Yadav!!! If he isn’t going to play at home with the injuries they have when is he going to play!!!’
The former England captain also praised opening batsman Dom Sibley, who passed 50 as the tourists reached 140-2 at tea on day one.
‘Huge credit to Dom Sibley!’ Vaughan said. ‘He has found a way against spin and every Test team needs someone who wants to bat time.’
Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, Vaughan added: ‘England have played the patience game so far but in India conditions you just need to continue with that mentality, get out of day one with just two or three wickets down.
‘Don’t look at the score, just bat. Tick off the minutes, tick off the hours, tick off the days.’
